Trella Uptown

Inlivian, formally known as the Charlotte Housing Authority, in partnership with Maryland-based Urban Atlantic, is building a 353 mixed-income apartment project on the site of the former Hall House at the intersection of 8th and North Tryon Streets. 110 units will be reserved for people making 80, 50, or 30% average median income.

Dallas-based A H Real Estate Holdings purchased 200 North College Street in late 2024 and is planning a significant overhaul of the nearly vacant 458,000 sf office property. The existing 810-space structured parking deck and attached 294-room Double Tree Hotel are to remain, while the office space is converted into over 300 new residential units with upgraded ground floor retail spaces.

New Main Public Library

Located at the site of the former main branch, the new Main Public Library will be a state-of-the-art 115,000-square-foot, 5-story structure featuring striking architecture designed by Snøhetta and Clark Nexon. The project will feature flexible spaces to meet demands for print and digital information and reading materials, public co-working spaces, meetings, events gatherings, and other specialized uses. This project includes the restoration of the adjacent McGlohon Theatre which will share a new entrance and support spaces with the new library.

Carolina Theatre at Belk Place

After a nearly 5-year renovation process, the Carolina Theatre has made its return to North Tryon Street after lying dormant for nearly four decades. A $90 MM restoration, led by the Foundation for the Carolinas, has not only brought the historic movie palace back to its original grandeur, but modernized it to serve as a civic gathering space and hub of entertainment and celebration well into the future.

Do Greater Uptown Creative Lab

Do Greater Charlotte is transforming a 20,000 sf 1920s office building at the corner of North Tryon and 8th Streets into a center where creative entrepreneurs and young adults can turn their skills into business opportunities. Aiming for a late 2025 opening date, Creative Lab Uptown will be a hub for creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship, providing opportunity youth and under-resourced communities with access to cutting-edge tools, technology, and mentorship programs.

CO-LAB at UNC Charlotte Center City

UNC Charlotte recently launched CO-LAB, a collaborative space for co-working & startups, including small business incubator and accelerator programs, corporate innovation space, academic and public events. Located in the heart of the North Tryon Tech Hub, CO-LAB houses the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI), which provides programming and support services for tenants as well as access to university expertise, interns and services to the wider community.

201 North Tryon

Cousin’s Properties will soon begin work on significant upfits to 201 North Tryon Street. Highlights include upgrades to the lobby, restrooms and other shared spaces, a reimagined streetscape along Tryon with new ground floor retail spaces, and a redesigned private outdoor plaza. Also planned is a new second-floor tenant amenity level with state-of-the-art fitness spaces, as well as shared training and conference space.

Planned to be built atop the recently opened Carolina Theatre, the 30-story InterContinental Hotel will be the tallest hotel in North Carolina upon completion. Tower foundations and a separate entrance for the future hotel were built into the theatre project during renovations, with future construction on the tower to begin at a later date.

Novant Health Performance Center

Hornets Sports & Entertainment is underway on the team’s new practice facility and headquarters next to the Spectrum Center. The facility features two full-size practice courts, team offices and training facilities, as well as a Novant Orthopedics & Sports Medicine clinic and ground floor retail space. This project is set to complete construction during the 2026-2027 season.
